VALPARAISO, IN (August 30, 2024) – The most popular and in-demand skilled trade unions have confirmed their participation in the 2nd Annual Porter County Construction and Skilled Trades Day hosted by Center of Workforce Innovations and the Construction Advancement Foundation (CAF) scheduled for September 4, 2024, at Porter County Expo Center in Valparaiso, Ind.
Up to sixteen trades organizations are bringing equipment, technology, and creating mock worksites for young people, including more than 600 students from high schools and career and technical programs across Northwest Indiana. Attendees will be encouraged to participate in hands-on activities with the chance to build and create.
The event allows young people an opportunity to meet with representatives from various unions and
skilled trades and gain a better understanding of the skilled trades career pathways.
“It is a good thing for youth to be exposed to the various trades and the different options outside of a typical four-year degree,” said Kevin Comerford, Director of Professional Development for CAF. “Providing these types of opportunities to our youth can open doors and serve the needs of both the student and the unions in a time when labor is needed more than ever.”
The Porter County Construction & Skilled Trades Day is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Porter County Expo Center located at 215 E Division Road in Valparaiso, Ind. For more information, please do not hesitate to call (219) 981-4126 or email areese@cwicorp.com.
